अजा एकादशी व्रत कथा
श्रीकृष्ण ने कहा: हे कुन्ती पुत्र! भाद्रपद माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी को अजा एकादशी कहते हैं। इसका व्रत करने से सभी पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। इस लोक और परलोक में मदद करने वाली इस एकादशी व्रत के समान संसार में दूसरा कोई व्रत नहीं है।
अजा एकादशी व्रत कथा
पौराणिक काल में अयोध्या नगरी में राजा हरिश्चन्द्र सत्यनिष्ठ और धर्मपरायण राजा थे। एक बार देवताओं ने उनकी परीक्षा लेने का निश्चय किया। राजा ने स्वप्न में देखा कि उन्होंने ऋषि विश्वामित्र को अपना राज्य दान कर दिया है। सुबह ऋषि वास्तव में आकर वही मांग करने लगे।
राजा ने सत्य का पालन करते हुए राज्य त्याग दिया और दक्षिणा चुकाने हेतु पत्नी, पुत्र और स्वयं को बेच दिया। वे एक चाण्डाल के दास बन गए और श्मशान में कफन लेने का कार्य करने लगे।
वर्षों तक कठिन जीवन जीने के बाद वे दुखी हो गए और मुक्ति का उपाय खोजने लगे। तभी महर्षि गौतम आए और उन्होंने अजा एकादशी का व्रत करने की सलाह दी।
राजा ने विधिपूर्वक व्रत और रात्रि जागरण किया। व्रत के प्रभाव से उनके सभी पाप नष्ट हो गए। देवताओं ने उन्हें दर्शन दिए, पुत्र जीवित हो गया, पत्नी को राजसी वस्त्र मिले और राज्य पुनः प्राप्त हुआ। अंत में वे स्वर्गलोक को प्राप्त हुए।
यह सब अजा एकादशी व्रत का प्रभाव था।
जो व्यक्ति इस व्रत को करता है, वह सभी पापों से मुक्त होकर स्वर्ग को प्राप्त करता है। इसकी कथा सुनने मात्र से अश्वमेध यज्ञ के बराबर फल मिलता है।

Aja Ekadashi Vrat Katha
Lord Krishna said: O son of Kunti! The Ekadashi that falls in the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month is called Aja Ekadashi. Observing this fast destroys all sins. There is no other fast in this world that equals it in spiritual merit and benefit.
Story of Aja Ekadashi
In ancient times, King Harishchandra ruled Ayodhya. He was known for his unwavering commitment to truth and righteousness. One day, the gods decided to test him. He dreamt that he had donated his kingdom to Sage Vishwamitra. The next morning, the sage arrived and demanded the promised donation.
True to his vow, Harishchandra gave away his kingdom. To pay the donation, he sold his wife, son, and himself. He became a servant to a Chandala and worked at a cremation ground, collecting fees for funeral cloths.
Years passed in hardship. Seeking liberation, he met Sage Gautama and shared his sorrow. The sage advised him to observe the Aja Ekadashi fast and stay awake through the night.
Harishchandra followed the advice. The power of the fast destroyed all his sins. Divine beings appeared, his son was revived, his wife adorned in royal attire, and he regained his kingdom. Eventually, he ascended to heaven with his family.
Such is the glory of Aja Ekadashi.
Anyone who observes this fast and keeps vigil is freed from all sins and attains heavenly bliss. Simply listening to this story grants the merit of performing an Ashwamedha Yajna.
